The Leeuwin II Sailing Ship
If you are in Perth during the summer months, you may be able to book a day sail on the Leeuwin II, Australia's largest sail training tall ship which is dedicated to challenging and inspiring people on adventurous ocean voyages.
Leeuwin Day Sails
A day sail is about $95 for an adult and lasts around 3 hours. You get plenty of nibblies, a chance to haul the sails and sometimes even a chance to climb up the rigging to the first platform of one of the masts. If you have pleasant weather and book a twilight sail you can end up with some amazing sunsets looking out from Fremantle harbour.
Longer Voyages on the Leeuwin
If you are under 25 and are looking for a longer voyage on a sailing ship, you may be in luck. The Leeuwin also runs a number of voyages during the year from 2 to about 10 days for youth aged between 15 and 25. Now this is no cruise liner, you will be actively involved in learning about the ship, and helping run and maintain the vessel along its voyage. Many describe such a journey as life changing and many come back as volunteers to help other's relive the experience.
